hipages works for some tradies and not for others, and the membership price alone will not tell you which group you are in. The number that decides it is your cost per booked job. Here is how to work it out, using hipages' own published pricing, and how it compares with running your own marketing for a trade business.

What hipages costs

hipages publishes four lead plans on its membership page. All prices are per month plus GST:

PlanPriceCredits per monthPostcodes
Starter$139 + GST1551
Advanced$249 + GST3103
Premium$449 + GST5955
Platinum$649 + GST85010

Three terms are worth knowing before you sign:

  • Contract length. Subscriptions start on a 6 month introductory term and then renew on a 12 month term. hipages says it will tell you before the renewal.
  • Shared leads. hipages caps each lead at three businesses, so you are quoting against up to two others.
  • Credits, not jobs. You spend credits to accept leads. The membership page does not say how many credits a lead costs, so ask that question before you choose a plan. hipages states it takes no commission on the jobs you win.

Work out your cost per booked job

A plan price is only useful once you divide it by the work it produces:

Cost per booked job = monthly cost ÷ jobs won that month

As an illustration only: on the Advanced plan at $249 + GST, winning three jobs in a month means about $83 per job before your time spent quoting. Winning one job means $249. Track it for three months, because one good or bad month tells you little.

Then compare that figure with what a job is worth to you. If an average job leaves you $400 of profit, $83 per job is a good trade. If it leaves you $120, it is not.

How Google Ads compares

The same formula applies to Google Ads: ad spend plus any management fee, divided by jobs won. Our Google Ads management plans start from as low as $550 per month +GST, and your ad spend is paid to Google on top. The differences are in what you get for the money:

  • Your leads are not shared. Someone who calls from your ad is calling you, not choosing between three quotes on a platform.
  • You build something you keep. Reviews and an accurate Google Business Profile keep producing calls after you stop paying for clicks.
  • It needs setup and tracking. You pay per click, not per lead, so without call tracking you cannot see your cost per job. Google also charges 10% GST on ad spend in Australia.

When each one makes sense

hipages tends to suit you when you are new or quiet, you need work this month, and you are comfortable quoting against others. There is nothing to build first.

Your own Google Ads and Business Profile tend to suit you when you already have steady work, your jobs are worth enough that shared leads feel expensive, and you want enquiries that belong to you.

Plenty of tradies run both for a while and keep whichever books jobs at the lower cost. The only way to know is to track cost per booked job on each, side by side. Our guide to local SEO for tradies covers the free side of the same work.

hipages publishes four plans: Starter at $139, Advanced at $249, Premium at $449 and Platinum at $649 per month, all plus GST. Each includes a monthly credit allowance and a set number of postcodes.

hipages subscriptions start on a 6 month introductory term and renew on a 12 month term, according to its membership page. Pauses are available within limits.

hipages says each lead is capped at three businesses.

It depends on your cost per booked job on each. Divide what you spend by the jobs you win, track both for a few months, and keep the one with the lower cost per job.
